Günther Sturms on Het Geloofsgesprek
Published on 8 September 2026 · MoTiv
Our student chaplain Günther Sturms was a guest on the Dutch television programme Het Geloofsgesprek. Fifteen minutes on what occupies students, and on the questions that rarely come up during your studies.
The episode opens in a new tab on NPO Start.
At the opening of the academic year the lecture halls fill up again and the rector magnificus gives her address. Somewhere in that bustle, Günther works as a student chaplain at TU Delft. In this episode he explains what that work involves.
At its core is helping students find their own sources. Not by handing them answers, but by asking the questions that usually get left behind somewhere between exams and deadlines. What inspires you? What are your core values? Who do you want to be for the people around you?
None of those questions come with a deadline, which is exactly why they are easy to postpone. They tend to return only when something gets stuck: a choice that no longer feels like yours, a year that is not going the way you thought, or a loss your degree leaves no room for.
Why this conversation is also about MoTiv
What Günther shows in fifteen minutes is exactly what MoTiv is for. We are not a study adviser and we are not a clinic. We are the place where you can stop for a moment and look at what you are doing, and why.
That happens in an hour-long conversation, on a reflective journey to Leipzig or Auschwitz, in a training session with your board, or in a group after a loss. The form differs; the question underneath is always the same.
